On Vacation, Sort Of

Grady Memorial Hospital

Today marked the first day of my ‘vacation’, of sorts. This afternoon I had a surgical procedure to correct an inguinal hernia at Grady Memorial Hospital in Delaware, Ohio.

I know what you’re thinking… “OUCH!”, right? The procedure was a breeze, really. I slept right through the whole thing. The hardest part was going without eating since 7pm the night before.

Doctor Michelle Wood

I was very fortunate to have a great surgeon with a wonderful bedside manner. Doctor Michelle Wood is currently practicing with Delaware Surgical Specialists and she gets my personal recommendation! I honestly got the feeling that she cared about my health as if I were a member of her own family. Best of all, she nearly fell for the ‘piano’ joke…

- Quoted as best as I can recall -

Me: So once this is done and I’m all healed, will I be able to play the piano?

Dr. Wood: Of course you will… Wait a minute, can you play the piano?

Me: Uh, no…. (Maniacal Chuckling)

Doctor Wood was certainly the prime member of the team taking care of me today, but there were many others as well. I’ll never forget the kindness and care of the nurses like Cody, Debbie and Nicole. And my anesthesiologist was awesome too! thanks Doctor Nye!

Mom & Dad

So now I’m relaxing and recuperating in a lovely little resort called Mom & Dad’s. There is rarely a day that goes by when I don’t stop and think about how blessed I am to have such wonderful parents!

I’m also very fortunate to have an incredible collection of friends from all over the world. The outpouring of prayers and well wishes has been remarkable, to say the least. I am not the least bit embarrassed to say that I love all of you!

All in all, this has been a great day for me. I’m feeling much better than I have been and I’m being cared for by people who love me. Now if only I could get room service…
